Bugaboo Buffalo vs Fox

Let’s dive in and look at the key differences between the Bugaboo Fox vs Bugaboo Buffalo!

The Wheels

We are going to start with the wheels, since they are what made the Bugaboo Buffalo stand out as a terrain stroller. The highly durable wheels on both strollers are made from sturdy stuff, meaning you can push your baby over pebbles, cobbles, grass, mud, gravel, concrete, sand, and more. Whatever rough terrain you face, these strollers can handle it.

The difference in the wheels lies in their size rather than their durability. The Buffalo had 12 inch rear wheels and 10 inch front wheels. Whilst they were incredibly effective at rolling smoothly over uneven terrain, they were rather cumbersome and heavy.

They made maneuvering the Buffalo a little tricky at times, and they affected the overall weight of the unit. In fact, the Buffalo weighed 27 lbs in total. This might sound manageable for pushing about, but it was a hefty weight to lift in folded form.

The Bugaboo Fox 3, by comparison, has 8 inch wheels at the front. The lost wheel-age results in the Bugaboo Fox weighing in at a total of 21.8 lbs. That makes it the most lightweight full size stroller on the market.

The 5 pounds weight difference makes the Bugaboo Fox far easier to lift in and out of your car trunk than its younger cousin, and will really save your back whilst still being able to tackle difficult terrain.

Folding Mechanism

The two stroller are very similar in terms of how they fold down for storage and transportation. They both employ a standing fold.

The system involves compressing the telescopic handlebars and then lifting a trigger to collapse the frame. Both work smoothly, especially after you have had a couple of practices at it.

However, the designers at Bugaboo made a crucial design alteration with the new Bugaboo Fox 3. It has a lock latch that holds the folded frame securely closed.

This means that the stroller can stand up on its own whilst folded, whereas the Bugaboo Buffalo had to be laid down on the ground.

This small difference will save your back a lot of bending and stretching, and means that you don’t have to worry about the thing falling over in folded form.

To unfold the Bugaboo Fox, the designers have created a simple mechanism that can be twisted, allowing you to unfold the stroller in one single motion. The Buffalo requires a lift and flick motion, which is prone to getting caught. The new mechanism is simpler and hassle-free.

The Frame

The Bugaboo Fox has been mounted on an entirely new frame to the Buffalo. Although the two look incredibly similar and behave very much alike, there are some crucial differences.

Both stroller come with bassinet baskets that can be inserted into the frame to create a baby bassinet, the way that the bassinet attaches is much simpler on the Bugaboo Fox than the Velcro system used on the Buffalo.

On both strollers, the stroller frame is lightweight, and the frame reclines in order to hold the huge basket, or can be put in an upright position when being used as a toddler seat.

The height-adjustable handlebar on both strollers aids comfort for parents as they push, as it can be set at a height that encourages a healthy posture and avoids lower back problems.

Brakes

The braking system on the Buffalo consisted of a foot pedal that could be pushed down to be engaged, and had to be flicked up to be released.

Many parents actually found that the flick-up functionality was a little stiff and tricky, which is why the designers have installed different brakes on the Bugaboo Fox.

The Bugaboo Fox has a double-tap brake system, whereby the brake pedal is pressed once to be engaged, and again on release. When we tried it, we found it was far easier and did not get stuck in the engaged position like the Buffalo was prone to doing.

Weight Limit

The Buffalo stroller was able to hold a weight limit of up to 50 lbs, meaning it was very robust and strong, and could certainly hold children of all shapes and sizes. Seeing as the average 3-year-old weighs 30 pounds, the Buffalo left plenty of room for growth.

The Bugaboo Fox has an upper weight limit of 48 pounds. Now, although this is less than the Buffalo, it is still a really strong capacity that is suitable for most toddlers and youngsters.

Customization

Another of the major differences between the Buffalo and the Bugaboo Fox is the level of customization that is available to you in terms of fabric print and design.

On the Buffalo, the seat and frame came in standard black, and you could customize the sun canopy in fun fabric. However, with the Bugaboo Fox, you can customize the canopy, the handlebar grip, the hub caps, and even the seat liner.

This means there is far more scope for you to get an original-looking stroller that is distinct from the others out there. When it comes to parking up at crèche and leaving your stroller outside, this is a very handy innovation, as it makes recognizing your stroller much easier.

Of course, if all that sounds a little like hard work to you, then the patterns and designs are also available in complete sets. Similar to the Bugaboo Bee 6 and the Bugaboo Donkey, there are three main fabric themes to choose from, and they all look stunning when displayed on the generous canopy.

The fabrics are lightweight and breathable, and your baby will feel incredibly comfortable and safe in both the bassinet and the toddler seat thanks to the expertly designed cushioning. Whether you opt for the core fabric, the premium fabric, or the signature fabric, there is something for everyone with the new Fox model.

Compatibility

Both stroller are compatible with one another, so you can use them together. They will fit onto each other’s frames, but the Bugaboo Fox does not fold up into the shape of the Buffalo. It is designed to sit higher off the ground, making it easier to load and unload.

On both lightweight strollers, the seat is compatible with various Bugaboo accessories that can help to make your life much easier. You can purchase compatible accessories for both the Bugaboo Fox & Fox 2 that include car seat adapters, seat adapters, and extra storage space.

Features

The Bugaboo Fox has so many amazing features that make it the most innovative stroller on the market today. In particular, the generous canopy will completely cover your toddler or baby, keeping them dry when it rains and shaded in bright sunshine.

The shopping cart that sits beneath the toddler seat is ample and very easy to access. This is so important, as any parent knows how crucial it is to be able to find things and store them easily – especially when you have your hands full.

We particularly love the cup holder, which allows you to stay hydrated whilst you are out and about. Whether it’s a smoothie or a coffee, the cup holder will allow you to have both hands on the handlebars.

And we are so glad that Bugaboo have kept the incredible five-point harness design that worked so well on the Buffalo when creating the Bugaboo Fox. This harness will afford you greater peace of mind as a parent because it has such an incredible safety standard.

Your child is secure and comfortable when clipped into their seat, and the clip is simple and effective to do and undo. No more battling with pins and stubborn straps, this harness is easy to adjust to your child’s exact size.
