Bugaboo Fox 2 Vs 3 Review

Bugaboo is a Dutch company that is known for their stylish yet practical strollers.

The Fox 3 stroller was released in October 2021, so it’s still relatively new to the market. At a glance, the Fox 2 and 3 look practically identical.

This is because Bugaboo hasn’t changed much with the Fox 3, but rather built upon the Fox 2. However, we know that there have been a few tweaks to the Fox 3, so let’s find out what these are.

Similarities and Differences Between Bugaboo Fox 3 vs Fox 2

Now that we have an overview of both pumps, let’s look more closely at their similarities and differences.

Materials

There are three material changes to the Fox 3 vs Fox 2, whereas everything else stays the same. For example, the chassis is the same for both the Fox 2 and the Fox 3.

The rest of the parts and accessories, such as the canopy and the car seat adapters, can be used interchangeably between these two models.

The three material changes can be found in the bassinet, the seat, and the harness.

The Bassinet

The exterior of the bassinet for the Fox 3 can be opened up to a large mesh panel, providing more airflow to your baby during the hottest months. It can also give your newborn the ability to look out into the world from their limited movements.

You can also close this panel again once the weather gets colder, or you need to make the bassinet dark for naptime.

The Fox 2 does not have this feature, although it does have a peekaboo window in the canopy for extra airflow on warmer days. The Fox 3 still has this feature as well.

The Seat

Bugaboo has added more padding to the seat to make it more comfortable as your little one grows.

This isn’t to say that the Fox 2 isn’t comfortable for children, but the Fox 3 adds another layer to ensure comfort at all times.

This additional layer of padding can also help younger babies stay protected when you’re pushing them over uneven terrain.

Not only does the seat come with extra padding, but it also is covered in a water-repellent fabric that makes it easier to clean and wipe down. It is also softer than that used on the Fox 2’s seat.

The Harness

The final material change comes on the harness, in which the Fox 3 uses a softer material for the shoulder pads and straps. This prevents the straps from digging into your baby’s arms or legs when they’re playing around in their seat.

The Fox 3 has kept the same clasp as the Fox 2, which is a five-point harness that each strap clips into the buckle independently. You do not have to connect two straps together before clipping them into the buckle like some other strollers.

Colors

While colors don’t have much to do with the performance of the stroller, the added bonus of aesthetics does play a role in our decision to buy. So, what colors are Bugaboo offering for the Fox 2 and Fox 3?

The Fox 3 introduces new colors for each component of the stroller, such as the chassis, seat, and canopy. You can customize your stroller with Bugaboo, which is one of the reasons why the company is so popular.

If you were to opt for the Bugaboo Fox 3 stroller, you would have two options to choose from: either a customizable option in which you can choose the colors of each component, or a one box stroller that comes in six different neutral colorways.

The base colors for the chassis and seat come in four different colors for the Fox 3, all of which are the same as the colors for the Fox 2, except for one. The new color is called Graphite, and it replaces the Fox 2 color Aluminum.

Here are the four base colors that the Fox 3 comes in:

  • Graphite Gray chassis with Midnight Black fabrics
  • Black chassis with Gray Mélange fabrics
  • Graphite Gray chassis with Gray Mélange fabrics
  • Black chassis with Midnight Black fabrics

The canopy can be purchased in seven different colors. Five of these are new for the Fox 3, so chances are you won’t have seen many of these before.

  • Midnight Black
  • Gray Mélange
  • Morning Pink (new)
  • Sunrise Red (new)
  • Stormy Blue (new)
  • Forest Green (new)
  • Misty White (new)

If you’re opting for a slightly easier option of the one box stroller, you can choose between six colorways for the Fox 3. These are as follows:

  • Black chassis with Midnight Black fabrics and canopy
  • Aluminum chassis with Midnight Black fabrics and canopy
  • Graphite Gray chassis with Gray Mélange fabrics and canopy
  • Graphite Gray chassis with Stormy Blue fabrics and canopy
  • Black chassis with Midnight Black fabrics and Misty White canopy
  • Black chassis with Refined Black Mineral Collection fabrics and canopy (special edition)

Many colors for the Fox 2 have been discontinued now that the Fox 3 has come out, so act quickly if you see a color above that you like. You never know when Bugaboo is going to discontinue a color!

Here is a list of the colors that Bugaboo have now discontinued:

  • Vapor blue
  • Fresh white
  • Aluminum silver
  • Red
  • Soft pink
  • Taupe mineral collection (special edition)

Price

Bugaboo is a luxurious brand of strollers, so we know that their prices are going to be slightly higher than market average anyway.

The Fox 3 is the more expensive of the two that we are looking at today, which can be put down to the fact that it is the newer model.

Most colors of the Fox 3 retail for around $1,300, with some exceptions. The Midnight Black color is $100 cheaper, while the special edition Washed Black colorway is $130 more than the standard colors.

The Fox 2’s price has been discounted now thanks to the new release of the Fox 3. While still sitting higher than market average, the price is more appealing but may be harder to buy new as they have been discontinued for the Fox 3 model.

Dimensions

Bugaboo did not change any of the dimensions for the Fox 2 and Fox 3 strollers, so they are both the same weight and dimensions. These are as follows:

  • Dimensions when open: 40.9 x 23.6 x 34.6 inches (LxWxH)
  • Dimensions when folded: 18.5 x 23.6 x 35.4 inches (LxWxH))
  • Weight of stroller: 21.8 pounds
  • Weight limit for bassinet attachment: 20 pounds
  • Weight limit for stroller seat attachment: 50 pounds
  • Weight limit for storage basket: 22 pounds

These are respectable in the world of strollers for being useful and easy to maneuver for parents. The stroller is not too heavy to pick up (even when you have a toddler in your other arm!) and the stroller seat attachment should last until your child is four years old.

Car Seat Compatibility

The Fox 2 and Fox 3 are both compatible with the same range of car seats, so nothing has changed in this respect either.

However, with the release of the Bugaboo Fox 3 came their second car seat – the Bugaboo Turtle Air, which is manufactured by Nuna.

The Turtle Air is much lighter than their first car seat, the Turtle One, and features new features such as a reclinable base and harness holders that are magnetic.

To connect any car seat to the Fox 2 and the Fox 3 you’ll need car seat adapters. This is true for the Bugaboo car seats as well as any others made from other manufacturers. The car seats that the Fox 2 and Fox 3 car seats are compatible with are as follows:

Bugaboo

  • Turtle One by Nuna
  • Turtle Air by Nuna

Nuna

  • PIPA
  • PIPA RX
  • PIPA Lite
  • PIPA Lite R

Final Thoughts on Bugaboo Fox 2 vs 3

Overall, we think that the Bugaboo Fox 3 has some very useful features that the Fox 2 does not offer. These include more comfortable seats, better ventilation for warmer days, and a more comfortable harness.

However, the cost of the Fox 3 is considerably higher than the Fox 2, so if you’re on a budget, the Fox 2 is still a commendable stroller.
