SNOO Vs mamaRoo

Let’s dive in and take a look how the 4moms mamaRoo sleep bassinet vs SNOO compare.

All About SNOO Smart Sleeper Bassinet

Created by celebrated pediatrician Dr. Harvey Karp, the SNOO is a bassinet that uses rocking technology to soothe and settle fussing babies.

An incredible innovation when it first hit the market, the SNOO impressed parents who know just how hard to come by sleep can be.

SNOO uses a series of microphones hidden in the bassinet, which detect crying. This then automates a response of rocking and sound to calm your baby back to sleep.

Unlike other brands on the market, the SNOO combines it’s cry detection technology with it’s own app control. With the app you can control the bassinet from a distance, allowing you to get on with other tasks quickly and efficiently. It also allows you to track your baby’s sleep, and learn what they respond to.

Combined with the SNOO sleep sacks and a comfortable, breathable design, the SNOO is a bassinet created for consistently better sleep.

The downside? The price. The SNOO is upwards of $1500.

And as a bassinet is only used for roughly 6 months, it makes it quite an investment.

However, if you add up all the extras that are included in the SNOO bundle, like SNOO sacks, SNOO sheet, mattress, mattress protector, and unlimited access to sleep consultants, 7 days/week then the price is somewhat mitigated.

All About 4moms mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet

When the SNOO was first released, the smart soothing technology was new to the market.

In the years since, some budget-friendly alternatives have popped up.

Among them is the mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet, a rocking bassinet that acts as a companion to the mamaRoo Baby Swing.

There are 5 unique motions installed, which might not seem like much at first. But factor in the 5 speeds, and you’ll find 25 settings to soothe your little one to sleep.

And with 4 white noise options, you can create a gentle environment to calm your baby to dreamland.

The 4moms mamaRoo doesn’t come with cry detection, but it does have another excellent feature: app control.

With the app, you can respond to fussing and crying easily and peacefully. The timer setting also allows you to set the bassinet to rock for four hours, although it won’t go all night.

Another advantage of the mamaRoo timer setting is establishing a routine.

The adjustable height and app control make it comfortable for parents to use, while mesh sides increase airflow for your baby.

Although it lacks cry detection, it is almost a quarter of the price of the SNOO.

mamaRoo Bassinet vs SNOO

We’ve compared the key features on the 4moms mamaRoo vs SNOO below.

Movement

Movement is a key feature in both of these bassinets. With controlled and automated rocking, the bassinet can soothe your baby back to sleep, with minimal input.

Not only does this save repeatedly getting up in the night, it also allows busy parents to get on with other tasks while the baby rests.

And for parents with mobility issues or back pains, the rocking bassinet takes away the strain.

In terms of movement, the SNOO and mamaRoo are pretty evenly matched.

The SNOO has 5 levels of motion for soothing and sleep.

The mamaRoo also has 5 different movements and 5 speed settings.

A key difference is the timing aspect. The SNOO can rock throughout the night, not only soothing your baby to sleep, but keeping them settled.

The mamaRoo will cycle for 4 hours at most and then stop. For some babies, this won’t make a difference. But others may prefer the constant movement of the SNOO.

The adjustable and adaptable movement levels of both bassinets allow parents to find a setting ideal for each situation.

As your baby grows, the movements can change along with them!

Sound

Sound is another key factor in soothing, and both bassinets use integrated speakers to create a gentle soundscape.

SNOO has 5 levels of white noise that can be adapted via the app to suit the preferences of your baby.

mamaRoo has 4 levels of white noise, with settings for ocean, rain, fan, and shh. One advantage the mamaRoo potentially has over the SNOO is the sound changes.

When switching from one noise to the other, the SNOO can be quite abrupt. With mamaRoo, each change is seamless.

App Control

Both the SNOO and mamaRoo bassinets can be controlled via an app. The SNOO uses a Wi-Fi connection, while the mamaRoo works via Bluetooth.

The SNOO app not only allows you to control the bassinet, but it also monitors and tracks your baby’s sleep schedule.

You can see when they wake up, when they go to sleep, and how quickly they’re soothed.

SNOO also provides you with access to top quality advice from pediatricians, all within the app.

4moms app is good, but definitely a basic option. You can control the bassinet, and set timers, but there isn’t much else you can do.

However, as so few smart bassinets include remote control, we still think this is a good feature.

Cry Detection

Cry detection is one of the stand-out features of the SNOO bassinet.

Microphones hidden within the bassinet detect the sounds of a baby fussing and crying, and trigger an automatic movement or sound reaction.

The SNOO system is smart, and can even recognize different sounds to respond correctly and soothe your baby faster.

Intelligent detection also means the bassinet won’t respond to background noise. It only recognizes crying coming from the bassinet.

And don’t worry about disrupted night feeding. If your little one is crying for several minutes, the SNOO automatically shuts off, and you can respond.

The 4moms mamaRoo doesn’t feature cry detection. You can program the bassinet to move for four hours to soothe during the night, but there’s no automatic response.

Design

While the rocking motions and technological advances are fantastic, the bassinet still has to function on a basic level.

That means it’s a safe and comfortable place for your baby to sleep.

Both the SNOO and the mamaRoo feature a firm, flat mattress surface, to ensure a safe night’s sleep. They also both use mesh walls, to promote air flow and visibility, while still offering protection.

Something we really appreciate about the mamaRoo is the ability to adjust the height.

It can be moved by 4.5 inches, for easier, more comfortable access. The SNOO is one height only, and if you want an adjustment, you have to pay for extra legs.

In terms of overall appearance, it’s impossible to beat the SNOO. This looks like a premium buy, with the wooden base, unobtrusive legs, and sleek finish.

The 4moms mamaRoo really can’t compare, and the final design does bring to mind plastic chairs.

However, appearance is only one small factor, and with this price difference, not one that will have a major effect on your choice.

Swaddle

The SNOO comes with its own sleep sack, a patented swaddle that keeps your baby secure overnight, and helps them sleep.

In fact, you get three of them included with the purchase, so there’s less of a rush to clean on laundry day.

4moms mamaRoo does have a firm base layer to accommodate for safe back sleeping, but there is no swaddle included.

This is a shame, but we don’t consider it a major issue. The SNOO Sleep Sack can be purchased separately, and the cost of the sleep sack and mamaRoo bassinet still adds up to significantly less than the SNOO bassinet.

How Long Can You Use The Bassinet For?

Babies outgrow bassinets quite quickly, and are ready to move onto cribs within a couple of months.

The SNOO and mamaRoo are both suitable for children up to 25 lbs, which is roughly 6 months old.

When your little one is ready to get on their hands and knees, it’s time to move on.

One advantage to the SNOO is that it comes with a weaning mode, to ease the transition into the crib.

The automatic sleep training should make the adjustment easier on the baby, which means a better time for parents as well!

Price

Let’s be honest, for all the features and capabilities, the price is the big difference between the 4moms mamaRoo and the SNOO.

The mamaRoo is roughly one quarter the price of the SNOO, making it significantly more affordable for many parents.

For many, the large price tag of the SNOO is impossible to look past.

The SNOO is expensive, but it’s also better. The movements are better, the app is better, and the modes make night soothing easier.

Cry detection also sets the SNOO apart, and, combined with the app control, makes for a rounded system. It’s also the nicer bassinet to look at.

However, 4moms have definitely created a bassinet that’s worth the money, and is a solid competitor to the SNOO.

4moms is a trusted brand, and the movement and app control of the mamaRoo bassinet can make soothing easier.

It might not have the same capabilities of the SNOO, but it also doesn’t have the price tag.

Final Thoughts on mamaRoo vs SNOO

The SNOO is the better bassinet, that’s impossible to disagree with. The cry detection sets the design apart, and all the other features work fantastically.

If it had an adjustable height, it would be pretty much perfect. However, it’s a lot to pay for an item that only gets 6 months use.

The mamaRoo lacks some sophistication, but it’s still an intelligent design with plenty of useful features. We think you’ll have a happy baby whichever option you choose!
