What Is The SNOO Smart Sleeper Bassinet?

The SNOO Smart Sleeper Bassinet has been built to make sleep easier, featuring smart technology to soothe fussy babies back into dreamland.

There are several key features that set the SNOO apart:

  • Built-in sound and movement. Babies love the rocking motions they experience in the womb and can struggle to sleep without the soothing movement. The SNOO provides several levels of motion, from gentle swings to faster jiggles, designed to calm and quieten. Combined with the white noise settings, the SNOO can do everything from calm crying, to ensuring your little one stays asleep.
  • Cry detection. This is the feature that makes the SNOO stand-out. Microphones within the bassinet pick up fussing and crying, and respond by activating motion/noise. The SNOO can also recognize different cries, and respond based on what it hears.
  • App control. With the app you can control the bassinet from a distance, allowing you to get on with other tasks quickly and efficiently. It also allows you to track your baby’s sleep, and learn what they respond to.
  • SNOO sacks. The SNOO provides swaddling, for a safer sleep.

The SNOO was created by celebrated pediatrician Dr. Harvey Karp, and the smart response has been a game changer.

It’s also fantastically designed and will look good in any home. However, there is one major downside: the SNOO is one of the most expensive bassinets on the market.

The SNOO Smart sleeper bassinet combines technology, innovation, and comfort to help soothe your baby to sleep!

This automatic rocking bassinet works off an in-built microphone, which in response to your baby’s cries, helps them to sleep with vibrations, movement, and lullabies.

But what sets the SNOO smart sleeper apart from the rest is their compatible app so you can control the bassinet with a simple touch on your phone.

So, Is SNOO Worth It?

There is no denying that the SNOO is expensive.

It costs upwards of $1500, making it several times the price of a standard bassinet.

However, the SNOO really is the best at what it does. The cry detection, movement options, and design are all fantastic.

And what sets the SNOO apart from the rest is their app so you can control the bassinet with a simple touch on your phone.

Plus if you add up all the extras that are included in the SNOO bundle, like SNOO sacks, SNOO sheet, mattress, mattress protector, and unlimited access to sleep consultants, 7 days/week then the price is somewhat mitigated.

But there are some things to consider if the SNOO is worth it for you and your circumstances:

1. The SNOO is suitable for babies up to 25 lbs

Depending on the size of your baby, this means that you can only use the SNOO till roughly 6 months old.

That said, the primary usage of the SNOO comes between 3 and 5 months, when your baby will be cycling through sleep patterns.

With the SNOO, you might find your child gets an extra 1 to 2 hours of sleep per night and is sleep trained to make transitioning to a crib easier.

But this is not a very long period of time to get the most of the SNOO, and you may not feel the cost is worth it.

2. Sleep Is Not Guaranteed

The SNOO was created with help from the renowned Dr. Harvey Karp, author of the celebrated Happiest Baby on the Block book.

Yet, even with all that experience and knowledge, there’s no guarantee that it will be right for your baby.

Your baby simply might not like the SNOO.

3. Use of Technology

Whilst the use of technology is what makes the SNOO great, if you’re not one for a smart phone you probably won’t get the full value from the SNOO.

Especially as the main feature that sets it apart is their app.

All of that said, is the SNOO worth it? Yes, if money was not an issue then we think the SNOO is a fantastic option. Afterall, can you really put a price tag on your sleep?

The Best SNOO Alternatives

Whilst we love the SNOO, we do understand that it is not right for everyone, so let’s dive in an take a look at the top SNOO alternatives.

1. Graco Sense2Snooze Bassinet

The Graco Sense2Snooze is considered to be the low-cost alternative to the SNOO.

Like the SNOO, but unlike many alternatives, the Graco Sense2Snooze bassinet comes with cry detection technology.

When your baby starts to fuss, the Graco built-in microphone picks up on the sound, and adjusts its setting accordingly!

Sense2Snooze comes with an impressive range of features to soothe your baby to sleep.

There are 3 speed variations, 2 vibration settings, 10 songs, and 10 soothing sounds, plus white noise, to calm and quiet your baby.

And when you know what works for your little one, you can save the preferred settings for a quicker response when fussing starts.

The basic features of the bassinet have also been considered with the Graco Sense2Snooze.

Built-in storage and wheels are good for busy parents, while the reversible canopy and mesh sides provide a comfortable space for your baby.

The biggest downside to the Graco Sense2Snooze is the design.

The SNOO looks streamlined and classic, while the Sense2Snooze is plain in comparison. However, we think the savings compensate for a less than elegant finish.

2. Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet

The Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet doesn’t have quite as many features as the SNOO, but at almost a 10th of the price, this is still a suitable alternative.

The calming sway motion and the soothing vibrations help provide a better night’s sleep for your baby.

Even if a lack of cry detection means you have to activate the features yourself.

Soothing Motions Bassinet has been designed by Fisher-Price to appeal to your baby’s senses.

The soft textures of the bassinet are accompanied by gentle vibrations, sleepy sounds and songs, and two soothing light settings.

The deluxe overhead mobile and overnight light projections provide something most moving bassinets don’t — something for babies to look at.

These additional features can help your little one feel happy and safe, as they drift away to dreamland.

With breathable mesh sides creating an airy sleeping space, your baby can enjoy a comfortable night’s sleep. And you can enjoy the quiet!

Without the cry detection, the Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet can’t quite hold its own against the SNOO.

The movements are also quite subtle, especially compared to the SNOO. But the Fisher-Price Soothing Motions Bassinet is a budget bargain.

3. HALO BassiNest Swivel Sleeper, Luxe Series

The vibration and sound that’s so essential to the SNOO system is an added extra to the Halo BassiNest, which utilizes an impressive swivel design.

The 360-degree rotation, combined with lowering walls and adjustable height, makes the BassiNest ideal for nighttime care.

But with the Luxe series, you get all these features, plus soothing motions and sounds.

We love the Halo BassiNest for the intelligence of design. It’s been created to make it easier to tend to your baby from bed, and the 360 degree swivel accommodates newborn bonding.

The soothing movement options are slightly reduced when it comes to the Halo BassiNest Luxe and Premiere Series.

There are only 2 levels of vibration and 4 sounds: heartbeat, white noise, babbling brook, and rainforest. There are no songs and no rocking motions.

There’s also no cry detection, so you have to activate the soothing movements yourself. However, with the movable design of the BassiNest, it is possible to do so from your bed.

While the soothing motion features are at the heart of the SNOO design, they feel like an add-on for the Halo BassiNest.

And, again, the Halo appearance can’t compare to the premier SNOO. But the Halo BassiNest has enough of its own special features to be worth considering.

4. 4moms MamaRoo Sleep Bassinet

4moms have created a bassinet that’s almost as good as the SNOO, and is roughly a quarter of the price.

There are 5 unique motions installed, which might not seem like much at first. But factor in the 5 speeds, and you’ll find 25 settings to soothe your little one to sleep.

And with 4 white noise options, you can create a gentle environment to calm your baby to dreamland.

The 4moms mamaRoo doesn’t come with cry detection, but it does have another excellent feature: app control.

With the app, you can respond to fussing and crying easily and peacefully. The timer setting also allows you to set the bassinet to rock for four hours, although it won’t go all night.

Another advantage of the mamaRoo timer setting is establishing a routine.

Combined with the firm surface, the breathable mesh sides, and the soothing wall space, you might find yourself impressed with how good a sleeper your baby becomes.

The 4moms mamaRoo Sleep Bassinet isn’t quite a total replacement for the SNOO.

It lacks the cry detection and design that makes the SNOO so superb. But it is a low-cost alternative that should improve sleep for both baby and parent.

Final Thoughts on Alternatives To SNOO

The SNOO is expensive, but it does have a combination of features that no other options have.

None of the budget designs feature both cry detection and app control.

However, our SNOO sleeper alternative choices are still quality bassinets, and can help bring a better night of sleep for a happier baby.
