Nuna Pipa Car Seat Review

Let’s look at why the Nuna Pipa infant car seat was one of the best infant car seats on the market:

Lightweight

The Nuna Pipa car seat is nice and lightweight, weighing just over 6 pounds. This makes it easy to carry around, especially if you are recovering from a C-section.

It is important to point out that this weight does not include the dream drape or the sun canopy which come included with the product. Keep reading to find out more about those particular features.

Safety Features

The Nuna Pipa car seat comes with plenty of safety features and received a 4 star rating at the ADAC child car seat tests in 2020, so you can be confident that your baby is safe. The flip out UPF 50+ sun canopy protects your baby from sunlight and harmful UV rays.

It has a three point no-rethread harness with three buckle positions to keep your baby in place. The harness is easy to clip and unclip and the material is nice and soft.

The shell of the car seat is made from heavy duty plastics and there is additional side impact protection. In the event of a car crash, the energy absorbing foam and the crumple zone will help to keep your baby safe.

The adjustable headrest is another important safety feature as it ensures that your baby’s head will not fall forward.

This protects their fragile neck and stops their airways from getting blocked. The headrest also has memory foam material for an even more comfortable journey.

Comfort

The seat position of the Nuna Pipa car seat is comfortable and snug which makes it suitable for long journeys as well as short ones. The built in wings automatically deploy when the seat is installed.

It has an adjustable height, luxe leatherette handle bar with seven different positions. This means you can move it out of the way or use it to hang toys from, which can be very useful for keeping your baby distracted in the car.

The handle has a good shape which makes the car seat comfortable to carry around with you.

The car seat has a removable padded insert for newborns which you can take out as your baby grows.

This means that the car seat will last you for a long time- you can use this car seat for newborns as small as 4 pounds, right up until your baby reaches 15 kilograms or 33 pounds.

The Nuna Pipa car seat benefits from a Merino wool insert for extra comfort. Merino wool is a natural fiber which has thermoregulating technology.

This means it will keep your baby warm in cold weather and help to keep them cool in warm weather. It also has moisture wicking and odor resistant properties.

Dream Drape

One of the most unique features of this car seat is the dream drape. This is perfect for sleepy babies as it creates a blackout effect to help the sleep regardless of where they are, and is made from a breathable mesh material.

The Dream Drape tucks away into a zipped compartment but can be pulled out and attached quietly to the bottom of the seat with magnets in a matter of seconds.

The fact that the sun shade and dream drape are built into the seat means that you don’t have to worry about remembering to bring everything or the risk of leaving things behind.

Assembly

This car seat comes fully assembled in the box with helpful instructions on how to install it into the car using the seatbelt. The colored indicators help you to feel confident that you have installed the seat correctly.

You have the option to buy the additional Isofix base which makes it even quicker and easier to install the car seat. Even though this is an extra cost, the isofix base fits with other Nuna products so you can continue to use it as your child grows.

The Nuna Pipa car seat is part of the ‘Next’ system – a series of products that take your child from newborn stage right through childhood, and the same isofix based is used for all products.

If your household has two cars you can use the isofix base for one car, but easily transfer the car seat to the other car and install it using the seatbelt. You can also take the car seat in a taxi and attach it using the seatbelt.

However, it is worth remembering that when installed with the seatbelt only the car seat does not meet the I-size safety requirements.

This car seat fits with lots of different strollers, and adapters are available to allow it to fit with even more. It is also TUV aircraft certified so you can take the car seat with you on your travels.

Price

Whilst the Nuna Pipa is no longer available to purchase new, it was considered a premium car seat with a higher price tag than some other car seats on the market, you were paying for innovative design and excellent features.

Final Thoughts on the Nuna Pipa Car Seat

Whilst the Nuna car seat came highly recommended and benefited from some excellent features for both safety and comfort, it has now been been discontinued and replaced by the Nuna Pipa Klik.
