About Mama Bear Diapers

Mama Bear diapers are a budget-friendly diaper brand that have become popular with parents hoping to save some cash.

But despite their impressive sales numbers, Mama Bear has managed to stay somewhat under the radar.

That might be because as an Amazon own brand, Mama Bear is only available online.

So, if you’re a parent that tends to stick to a grocery store diaper run, you might have been missing out on this surprisingly incredible diaper!

Does Amazon Make Mama Bear Diapers?

Mama Bear is an Amazon own-brand! As well as diapers, Mama Bear sells baby formula, diaper pails, wipes, bottles, and more!

Because of this, Mama Bear is only available from Amazon.com, and can’t be bought in stores.

If you love the brand, we recommend signing up for Prime membership. That way, you can get next day delivery when you’re running low on diapers.

A game-changer when you don’t have time for an emergency grocery store trip.

Mama Bear Diaper Materials

All parents should be taking note of exactly what’s used to make diapers.

Bargain brands, and even some luxury options, will load their diapers with harmful ingredients that can irritate your baby’s skin, and even cause rashes.

It’s generally best to avoid diapers that have an added fragrance. It’s really not necessary, and the added fragrance can lead to irritation.

Be especially careful if your baby has sensitive skin, as fragrance can cause flare-ups.

Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are free from chlorine bleaching, perfumes, lotions, parabens, and phthalates.

They’re hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested as well.

Mama Bear Plush Protection is free of natural latex, lotions, fragrances, and elemental chlorine bleaching.

They’re also clinically proven hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested.

Mama Bear are very upfront about both what’s used in their diapers, and what isn’t used.

From just a quick look at the packaging, protective parents will be able to see if the diapers reach their standards.

Finding diapers that are free of harsh chemicals is surprisingly difficult.

We appreciate that Mama Bear has done what they can to limit the harmful materials and ingredients that will come in contact with your baby’s gentle skin.

We also like that they’ve done this on a budget! You can take care without having to break the bank.

It’s also wonderful that both Plush Protection and Gentle Touch are hypoallergenic and tested by dermatologists.

It provides that extra level of reassurance, which we all want when it comes to our kids.

For a chemical-free diaper, Gentle Touch does appear to be the winner.

They list that they’re free of phthalates, which can potentially cause asthma and eczema in children.

Are Mama Bear Diapers Eco-Friendly?

The Plush Protection diapers by Mama Bear are Sustainable Forestry Initiative certified and made with sustainably sourced pulp.

They’re made in the US from a mixture of US materials and imported materials.

Gentle Touch diapers don’t have Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification, so presumably, they don’t source pulp using the same methods.

However, Gentle Touch diapers are made in a Zero Waste To Landfill facility.

This means that any waste materials created during the course of production are sent to a recycling facility, or reused.

Overall, we’d class the eco-friendly credentials of Mama Bear as average. They make some concessions for the environment, but they still have some way to go.

It would be good to see a focus on using more sustainably sourced natural materials.

Mama Bear diapers aren’t biodegradable. Although it’s not immediately clear what the diapers are made of, we assume that there are some plastics in there.

If you want eco-friendly single-use diapers, it’s better to look for those that are biodegradable.

Do Mama Bear Diapers Work?

Let’s be honest — the most important part of any diaper is just how well it works!

No one wants a leaky baby caused by poor quality diapers. So, what exactly can you expect from Mama Bear?

Mama Bear Gentle Touch Diapers Review

The Gentle Touch diapers were the first diapers released by Mama Bear.

They are flexible fit diapers with up to 12 hours of leakage protection, making them suitable for both daytime and nighttime usage.

Mama Bear has designed the Gentle Touch diapers with a thin and flexible finish. They won’t add bulk to your baby, but they still have excellent absorption.

A flexible fit ensures the diaper moves with your child. Babies do love to explore, but diapers don’t always enjoy exploring along with them.

Having that flexible fit both keeps the baby comfortable and stops annoying leaks from a displaced diaper.

For busy parents, which is all of us, the Gentle Touch diapers include a wetness indicator. This will let you know exactly when it’s time for a change.

And one final feature that we appreciate is the breathable outer cover.

Spending time in a diaper can get babies hot and sweaty, which can lead to rash and irritation.

With a breathable outer cover, your baby’s skin can stay both dry and healthy.

Still not convinced? Mama Bear has included a satisfaction guarantee. If the diapers aren’t up to standard, you can get your money back.

Mama Bear Plush Protection Diapers Review

Plush Protection is the newest release from Mama Bear.

These are designed for extra softness, intended to be the complete diaper, offering comfort and protection for your baby.

Plush Protection offers 12 hour protection, so they are suitable for use both during the day and the night.

FullProtect Core dryness technology has been used to pull the moisture away, so it doesn’t sit on the surface, leading to irritation.

The FullProtect Core has been combined with a wetness indicator, which can let you know whenever it’s time for a change.

With the moisture pulling technology and the wetness indicator, these diapers are really convenient across long, busy days.

But the big selling point of Plush Protection is the comfort levels. These diapers have a super-soft core lining, which should feel velvety soft on delicate skin.

Like Gentle Touch, the materials are breathable, so the skin stays dry and healthy.

Plush Protection has also included Tri-Grip tabs, to keep the fit snug and secure.

These are diapers designed to work alongside your baby, staying in place throughout the day.

Finally, Plush Protection offers a satisfaction guarantee. See if the diapers live up to their promises, without wasting your own money.

It would definitely be nice to see Mama Bear expand the range, and create some specialized diapers to fit every need.

The current range is limited, with no overnight diapers, no swim diapers, and no biodegradable diapers.

As they’ve been established for several years, and the Gentle Touch range clearly has fans, it’s a shame they’ve yet to try branching out.

Sizing

Both the Gentle Touch and Plush Protection diapers are available in sizes from newborn to size 7.

Great news if you like the Mama Bear diapers, as you can use them for every stage of your child’s growth.

Mama Bear has also included a sizing chart, so you can see exactly what you need for your child.

Very helpful if you’ve never bought diapers before, and you’re finding getting the size right difficult.

The fit of both types of diaper is close but flexible. Your baby should be able to move quite comfortably, without knocking the diaper out of place, leading to leaks.

They also stay firmly anchored overnight, so you can really appreciate the 12 hours of protection on offer.

If you’re switching from a different brand, Mama Bear recommends purchasing the diapers in the size you’re currently using.

They should be true to size, but you may need to go up a bracket. Users have found that the diapers have a slightly snug fit.

You’re unlikely to find that your child outgrows Mama Bear diapers before they’ve finished diaper wearing.

However, you may find they need the top sizes earlier than you realize.

During this sizing up period, leaks can occur, but the fantastic protection offered by Mama Bear keeps this to a minimum.

Price

One of the reasons Mama Bear has become such a popular brand is due to the pricing.

These are an exceptional budget option, and most parents will find them to be very affordable.

Gentle Touch is the cheaper range, with each diaper costing around 20 cents.

Depending on the size of the pack and any discounts you make use of, they can be cheaper again.

Plush Protection is slightly more costly, but it really is only slightly. We found these to be roughly 30 cents per diaper.

Again, you can get yourself a discount by purchasing a bigger box.

Diapers can end up being very costly, as we go through so many of them.

We love that Mama Bear has priced their diapers affordably, but haven’t made quality sacrifices.

Some diapers of a similar quality can be more than 80 cents a diaper, which quickly adds up.

If you’re really interested in saving, we recommend buying the diapers on subscription.

You’ll get a discount for a recurring order, and you can permanently cross an item off your to-do list.

Mama Bear Diaper Reviews

It’s always good with diapers to see what other parents have to say. The good news with the Mama Bear range is that there are plenty of opinions out there!

Finding reviews for each brand was easy, especially as they’re both sold through Amazon.

As Gentle Touch has been around for longer, we weren’t surprised to find that they had significantly more reviews.

Currently, Amazon has over 36,000 reviews for Gentle Touch, giving an average of over 4 stars.

Plush Protection doesn’t have quite the same product history, so there are a smaller number of reviews.

At the time of writing, Plush Protection had less than 500 reviews, and was averaging around 4 stars. We don’t see this as a bad sign!

Plush Protection hasn’t been on the market for very long, and it takes a while to build up verified reviews.

So, what are people saying about Mama Bear diapers?

What People Like

Users seem to be very impressed with the Gentle Touch diapers. Many of them find that they really do live up to their name, and have a very gentle touch.

Softness is a common factor across the reviews, with many users noting just how gentle the diapers are.

Gentle Touch was also praised for the leak protection. Many users found these diapers to be super absorbent, with limited leaking.

Reviews also note the thinness of the diaper, with some impressed by how a sleek diaper can absorb so much.

Plush Protection also has some good reviews, although not on the scale of Gentle Touch.

Again, users have noted both the absorbency level, and the softness of the materials used.

Softness appears to be the best quality of these diapers, with several reviews mentioning the comfort factor.

In terms of absorbency and leak protection, reviewers have generally found Plush Protection to be good, even if they aren’t excellent.

However, some reviewers have been very impressed with how the diapers absorb.

Plush Protection has also been praised for its ability to stay in place, even for very active children!

What People Don’t Like

The main complaint about Gentle Touch is that it has a tendency to sag.

Several users have noted that when the diapers get wet, they have a habit of hanging low.

Also, the thinness has caused some issues. While the Gentle Touch diapers are designed to be thin, some have found this is less of a feature and more of a problem.

It affects both the feel of the diaper and can hinder the absorbency levels, in the opinion of a few reviewers.

One of the main complaints about Plush Protection is that despite being the plusher, more expensive line, they don’t perform much better than Gentle Touch.

Where To Buy Mama Bear Diapers

Mama Bear diapers are only available from Amazon.com.

This can be frustrating in those inevitable moments when you get down to your last diaper without realizing, but there are some real benefits.

For a start, you can get a big delivery of diapers straight to your house, to keep you stocked up for as long as possible.

If you like to pack your car with diapers to avoid needing emergency packs, this is a much simpler solution.

Also, you can make use of the subscribe and save feature. Set up timed deliveries, and then you can just sit back and relax.

As well as reducing stress levels, you also save money! Get a discount on your first purchase and future discounts on every recurring purchase.

In fact, several reviewers recommend not bothering with Plush Protection, and sticking with Gentle Touch.

We recommend taking a look at the product reviews, and seeing what people are saying.

Both lines of diapers have good reviews, and comments from parents who have made Mama Bear their go-to choice!

How Does Mama Bear Compare To Other Brands?

1. Biodegradable Diapers – Andy Pandy Bamboo Disposable Diapers

For eco-conscious families, finding the right diapers can be a challenge. These biodegradable diapers from Andy Pandy are our top choice.

They’re 87% biodegradable, reducing the amount of waste created.

Made of bamboo, a highly sustainable and fully natural resource, they’re better for the planet than plastic-based diapers which will never break down completely.

But it’s not just the planet that these diapers are good for. Free from chlorine, alcohol, preservatives, phthalates, and latex.

As well as containing no PVC, TBT, or PFAS, Andy Pandy diapers are great for the health of your child.

They’re also hypoallergenic and antibacterial, plus they’re soft and comfortable on your baby’s skin.

And for each purchase of Andy Pandy diapers, Andy Pandy Kids will donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Eden Reforestation Project.

Andy Pandy diapers are a little more expensive than Gentle Touch, but cheaper overall than the Plush Protection range.

Andy Pandy diapers don’t appear to have that same fantastic 12 hour absorbency of Mama Bear diapers.

2. Hypoallergenic Diapers – Dyper Bamboo Baby Diapers

More and more brands are understanding the importance of creating hypoallergenic diapers that are safe for delicate and sensitive skin.

Our top choice of them all is Dyper, a brand that specializes in creating diapers made with honest ingredients.

Even better, Dyper doesn’t sacrifice price to bring you quality. They’re surprisingly affordable for a brand that was clearly made with a great deal of care.

Dyper diapers are made using 100% bamboo viscose, and contain no chemicals or additives. They’re also free from PVC, phthalates, chlorine, perfumes, and lotions.

To ensure that these diapers are just right for sensitive bums, Dyper have left their diapers unprinted and unscented. Sometimes, simple really is best!

Hypoallergenic diapers are ideal for babies with sensitive skin, preemies, and the delicate skin of newborns. Stretchy and comfortable, Dyper is ultra-soft to touch.

Something else we really like about Dyper is that they’re cruelty-free and clinically tested by dermatologists.

They’re a brand that you really feel like you can trust to take care of your child and keep them safe.

One thing to watch out for — Dyper runs large! If you get the wrong size, be prepared for some leaks (and even the occasional blow out).

Dyper also lack some of the absorbency of Mama Bear, and might not be good for overnights.

3. Budget Diapers – Kanga Care Rumparooz Reusable Cloth Diaper

In the short term, a reusable diaper is going to cost you a lot more than a pack of diapers.

There’s the diaper itself, a couple of spares, the inserts, the doublers, boosters, liners. Plus the time and effort spent cleaning.

But in the long run, your brand-new cloth diaper will end up saving you money (and it’s better for the environment too).

Kanga Care Rumparooz reusable cloth diapers are comfortable and convenient, designed to save you money and waste.

Made from water-resistant polyester TPU, the Kanga Care Rumparooz have a fantastic fit to prevent leaks.

Of course, a reusable diaper won’t be right for every lifestyle.

If your child has sensitive skin, you may prefer the disposables, which can be more rigorously tested for a hypoallergenic finish.

But if you’re open to some alternatives, we really recommend thinking about a reusable diaper.

FAQs About Mama Bear Diapers

Are Mama Bear Diapers Eco-Friendly?

Mama Bear diapers can boast a few eco-credentials, but not very many.

While they make sure to avoid waste, and the Plush Protection range is made using sustainable wood pulp, the majority of the diaper appears to be plastic-based.

If you want eco-friendly diapers, it’s best to look for biodegradable diapers and reusable diapers. These can reduce the waste output significantly.

Mama Bear diapers are certainly convenient, but they have to be disposed of in the trash.

That said, Mama Bear diapers aren’t the worst diaper for the environment.

The brand does use a Zero Waste To Landfill facility, so all waste is either recycled or reused.

Do Amazon Make Own-Brand Diapers?

Yes, the Mama Bear diaper range is an Amazon own-brand. They can only be purchased via Amazon.com, and they aren’t currently available in any stores.

Is There More To The Mama Bear Range?

Mama Bear Store carries much more than just diapers! As well as their diaper brands, they also sell diaper pail refills, formula, wipes, baby bottles, and training wipes.

It’s quite a large brand, selling affordable and simple diaper caddy essentials for busy parents.

If you’re a fan of the Mama Bear diaper range, we highly recommend taking a look at the rest of the products in the store.

Can You Try Mama Bear Diapers With A Free Trial?

Many diaper brands offer a free trial, so you can experience the product without having to invest in a big pack that might not fit your needs.

Currently, Mama Bear doesn’t offer a free trial.

However, both Gentle Touch and Plush Protection carry a satisfaction guarantee.

If you aren’t happy, for whatever reason, you can return the diapers within the course of a year, and get a refund.

We love this, as it allows us to ensure that Gentle Touch is going to be right before paying for delivery on a pack of 92!

Do Mama Bear Diapers Contain Chlorine?

The Plush Protection diapers from Amazon are “elemental chlorine-free”. This means that while they aren’t completely chlorine-free, the toxicity levels are reduced.

Gentle Touch, on the other hand, is completely chlorine-free. Overall, we think this makes them the better choice.

Are Mama Bear Diapers Made Of Natural Materials?

Mama Bear diapers are quite open about materials they don’t contain, but slightly less forthcoming when it concerns what they do use.

There’s no mention of natural materials on the packaging or website for either Gentle Touch or Plush Protection.

Because of this, we can assume that much of the diaper isn’t made from plant-based material.

Plush protection contains some wood pulp that’s sustainably sourced, but this is only a small fraction of the overall materials used.

Both Gentle Touch and Plush Protection are hypoallergenic, and free from many harsh chemicals.

If you are interested in a diaper with natural materials, we recommend looking for those made from bamboo.

Bamboo is a sustainable material, absorbent, and gentle on the skin.

Are Mama Bear Diapers Hypoallergenic And Non-Toxic?

You might be surprised to find out just how many chemicals can be used to create diapers.

Mama Bear Gentle Touch diapers are free from chlorine bleaching, perfumes, lotions, parabens, and phthalates.

They’re also hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested.

Plush Protection diapers are free of natural latex, lotions, fragrances, and elemental chlorine bleaching.

Like Gentle Touch, they’re hypoallergenic and dermatologist tested. However, it doesn’t say that they’re free from phthalates.

How Do Mama Bear Diapers Compare To Huggies And Pampers?

Mama Bear diapers are gaining popularity, but how do they compare with the big brands — Huggies and Pampers?

One of the major benefits of Pampers and Huggies is that their ranges are so large. It’s really easy to find exactly what you need from Pampers and Huggies.

They’re also so widely available that you can rely on most grocery stores to carry something from either Huggies or Pampers.

However, Mama Bear tends to have the edge when it comes to diapers that are both low in chemicals and low in price.

Has Mama Bear Discontinued Diapers?

Mama Bear used to sell a range of diapers called Best Fit. Unfortunately, these were discontinued before the introduction of the Plush Protection range.

Gentle Touch – Overall

Gentle Touch is an excellent overall brand, containing few harsh chemicals.

They’re also fantastically priced and have a 12-hour absorbency that makes them good for both days and nights.

We earn a commission if you make a purchase, at no additional cost to you.
04/16/2024 12:03 am GMT

Plush Protection – Overall

Plush Protection is the latest in the range from Mama Bear. These are designed to be super soft, and come with a wood pulp center for extra absorbency.

Like Gentle Touch, these diapers are hypoallergenic and tested by dermatologists. However, they are more expensive.

Final Thoughts On Mama Bear Diapers

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly, chemical-free diaper, then Mama Bear is the way to go.

Their products are well-made, and their prices are very reasonable. If you want a diaper with a long absorbency but a low price, then Gentle Touch is fantastic.

As an online-only brand, Mama Bear has managed to pass under the radar.

But if you like ease with your diaper deliveries, the Amazon recurring deliveries option takes the stress out of last-minute diaper trips.

And with a satisfaction guarantee, you can try these diapers with no risk!
