About The Brands

Both CeraVe and Eucerin are well known brands in the skincare industry.

The Eucerin brand began in Germany in 1882. It started with a pharmacist creating medical dressings, but in 1900, it changed into a skincare company called ‘Eucerit’.

Eucerit was the first brand to produce a formula that could harness a water-in-oil solution.

Cerave is much younger brand that was created in 2005. It started when dermatologists realized that patients with various skin issues, like acne, psoriasis, or eczema, all had a damaged skin barrier.

To solve this, they started creating products that contained ceramides, which were designed to help replenish and defend the skin’s barrier.

In 2006, Cerave created three main products, their Hydrating Cleanser, Moisturizing Lotion, and Moisturizing Cream.

Both brands create skincare products that are supported by research, working with dermatologists, pharmacists, and scientists to do so.

Several doctors recommend Eucerin and Cerave products to heal many skin issues, like psoriasis and eczema.

Cerave Vs Eucerin: Product Comparison

To understand which brand is better for you, we’ll cover some of the main differences between their popular products.

CeraVe vs Eucerin Body Wash

Both Cerave and Eucerin are pregnancy safe body washes, yet they are both created with different ingredients.

CeraVe’s Hydrating Body Wash is a popular product that uses ceramides and hyaluronic acid to soothe and hydrate the skin. This is a foaming cream that works well to remove dirt but doesn’t strip the skin of its natural oils.

Cerave’s body wash is also a good choice for those with eczema, as it’s also received the National Eczema Association seal. This classification shows that the product is free from any substances that might exacerbate eczema or dry skin.

Eucerin’s Skin Calming Body Wash is good for dry or itchy skin. Unlike Cerave’s product, it has an oily consistency.

It uses castor and soybean oil which are full of fatty acids that can soothe irritated skin. Their solution is free from soap and fragrances which are known to irritate the skin.

Those that like foaming body washes may prefer Cerave’s Hydrating Body Wash. The formula foams without drying the skin out.

People with dryer skin may prefer to use an oilier formula, as this can have a soothing effect on itchy or irritated skin. If this is the case, Eucerin’s Skin Calming Body Wash would be a better choice.

Eucerin vs CeraVe Body Lotion

Eucerin and CeraVe’s body lotions both effective products for moisturizing your skin and both are pregnancy safe body lotions.

CeraVe Daily Moisturizing Lotion is ideal for very dry skin. Like the previous body wash, it also has the National Eczema Association’s acceptance.

It contains hyaluronic acid that acts as a humectant, pulling moisture into the skin to keep it hydrated. The body lotion also uses ceramides that coat and defend the skin barrier from damage.

This lotion is ideal for daily use, as it’s light and doesn’t leave any leftover residue.

Eucerin Skin Calming Lotion is another body lotion that’s good for dry skin and for those who suffer from eczema-prone.

It keeps your skin moisturized for 24 hours using natural, effective ingredients. The cream absorbs rapidly into your skin and starts working immediately.

Eucerin’s formula is non-comedogenic and free from harmful ingredients like artificial fragrances, dyes, and chemical additives. In addition, the added emollients create a barrier on your skin that protects it from environmental aggressors, so if you are prone to dry skin, Eucerin is an excellent choice.

Both body lotions are lightweight for everyday use.

Eucerin Cream vs CeraVe Cream

Both brands have made body creams that are thicker than their lotions. These are both creams that come inside a tub.

Cerave’s Moisturizing Body Cream is one of the top-rated choices recommended by dermatologists all over. If you have dry, flaky skin, the rich, creamy texture feels great and soaks into your skin, dramatically improving the dryness. It is rich, but it’s not too thick.

CeraVe uses a mix of ceramides and hyaluronic acid that ensures your pregnancy-caused sensitive skin won’t suffer from rashes or reactions. In addition, these ingredients are safe from those who suffer from frequent acne, and the light scent won’t irritate your sensitive skin.

Another reason moms vote this is the best body lotion for pregnancy is that it contains three different ceramides that help maintain skin permeability while protecting it.

Similarly, Eucerin’s Advanced Repair Cream is safe to use during pregnancy. It uses ceramide 3 and natural moisturizing factors that can soothe and protect dry skin. However, the formula also uses shea butter which can cause blemishes by blocking pores.

Shea butter and petroleum jelly can protect dry skin, but dry skin that’s also acne-prone should avoid these products. If this is the case, you may want to opt for Cerave’s Moisturizing Lotion listed above. This product is free from any thick, pore-blocking ingredients, but it works well to moisturize skin.

Cerave’s Moisturising Cream is a good choice for eczema-prone skin, but if you just suffer from dryness, either cream will suit you fine. Both of these products soften the skin and have ceramides that safeguard the skin barrier.

CeraVe vs Eucerin Face Moisturizers

Most Cerave and Eucerin lotions can be used on the face and body, but each brand also creates face moisturizers designed solely for the face.

Cerave’s AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion is a lightweight, but the formula has been specifically made to wear during the day. It’s non-comedogenic, so it won’t block pores or leave a greasy film on the face.

More notably, the lotion contains an SPF 30 sunscreen. This is a decent sun protection factor for everyday use, but it may need to be topped up if you’re in particularly sunny conditions.

Cerave’s lotion is a great product for dry skin as it contains ceramides, hyaluronic acid, and niacinamide. This is ideal for those with added skin issues, as niacinamide can reduce dullness, smooth over fine lines, and improve the appearance of pores.

CeraVe AM Facial Moisturizing Lotion SPF 30
$19.99 $14.55 ($4.85 / Ounce)

Eucerin Daily Protection Face Lotion is also a dermatologist recommended, lightweight, broad spectrum SPF 30 moisturizer. It is enriched with zinc oxide and titanium dioxide to provide broad spectrum UVA/UVB protection.

It is fragrance free and non-comedogenic so it won’t block pores or leave a greasy film on the face.

Keep in mind that none of these moisturizers have been accepted by the National Eczema Association.

CeraVe vs Eucerin Night Cream

Both brands produce facial creams that are slightly richer than their day creams

These night creams use the same active ingredients that are seen in their face moisturizers.

Cerave’s PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion is designed for normal to dry skin. Ceramides and hyaluronic acid are used to soften the skin.

The product is also free from oil and uses a non-comedogenic formula, so it won’t cause blemishes. This means that it would work well on a range of skin types, including normal, dry, and oily.

CeraVe PM Facial Moisturizing Lotion

Eucerin’s Urea Repair Face Cream uses urea and lactic acid that works well on dry skin, but they also exfoliate to remove skin texture. This is great for dry skin that has any fine lines or dry patches. The formula is lightweight, so it doesn’t leave a residue on the face. The product contains lactate and urea which can replenish any moisture lost from dry skin.

However, unlike Cerave’s product, Eucerin’s PM lotion contains castor oil. This may be fine for dryer skin, but oily skins may find that this causes blemishes later on.

If you suffer from dry skin, Eucerin’s face cream can work well to soothe these issues. However, Cerave’s lotion works well on a range of skin types, so it may suit more people compared to Eucerin’s product.

Products For Keratosis Pilaris

Keratosis pilaris is a common skin condition. Also known as ‘chicken skin’, it occurs when keratin develops inside the hair follicles, creating rough skin. It looks like small bumps on the skin’s surface which normally appear on the thighs or upper arms.

Cerave and Eucerin both make products that can target rough or bumpy skin. These are Cerave’s SA Smoothing Cream and Eucerin’s Roughness Relief Lotion

These creams both contain urea, an acid that breaks down keratin within the hair follicles. Cerave’s product also uses salicylic acid, a beta-hydroxy acid that clears out the pores from within.

Eucerin’s lotion is kinder on the skin and uses shea butter to nourish the skin from within. Both of these products can target keratosis pilaris well, but if you need a gentler formula, Eucerin’s product will be the better choice.

If your main issue is combating keratosis pilaris, Cerave’s cream uses more exfoliating ingredients which work well to soothe the condition.

Final Thoughts on Eucerin vs Cerave Moisturizer

Both Eucerin and Cerave create amazing skincare products. Each of their formulas acts differently as they use various active ingredients.

Cerave uses ceramides and hyaluronic acid in most of its products. Hyaluronic acid holds moisture within the skin while ceramides protect the skin barrier from damage.

Eucerin also uses ceramides to defend the skin, but many of its products use urea and lactic acid. Urea can work well to keep the skin moisturized, but lactic acid may aggravate irritated skin. This is why those with sensitive skin or eczema may prefer Cerave’s products.

Keep in mind that the products you choose will depend on your specific skincare issues and requirements. Our guidance above should help, but if you’re stuck between two products, you may need to trial and error before you make your decision.
