What Is The RockaRoo?
The rockaRoo is a new design for a baby bouncer or baby swing. It essentially creates movement from a rotating pedestal seat which is attached to a heavy bottom stand which contains the controls for the settings.
These movements can either stimulate the baby and keep them entertained, or they can lull them to sleep.
The rockaRoo has multiple settings to either encourage sleep or create stimulation, there are different speeds as well as a mobile which comes attached which has some songs on it. Everything you need, plus physics, in order to get your baby to sleep.
The main draw here is that the rockaRoo requires no settings up prior to using it, is completely mobile, and takes up very little space – they are directly solving many of the issues presented with the traditional baby bouncer or baby swing design.
The MamaRoo Multi-Motion Baby Swing is the only swing designed to mimic a parent's natural rhythms and movements.
It has five motions, five speeds, and four sounds, so you can tailor each ride so your baby is entertained and content, whatever their mood.
It has a convertible harness from 5-point to 3-point to ensure your baby is kept secure.
And you'll love the smart features it comes with such as Bluetooth that allows you to control the features with the 4moms app on your phone and stream baby’s favorite music.
It is also voice control compatibile with Amazon Alexa.
What We Love About the MamaRoo
Baby bouncers and swings are loved by parents, the right one can be a cheat code when it comes to keeping your baby entertained while you multitask.
Conversely, the rockaRoo is great for getting the baby to sleep as well as stimulating them, something a baby bouncer might struggle to do.
Here’s what we loved:
A Moments Peace
As a mother you still may be on maternity leave, but that doesn’t always mean work stops still or that the emails stop.
Sometimes we need a few minutes out of our day to ourselves, to have some coffee and get emails looked at, not only for our own sanity but for the sake of doing something for yourself and your career.
This is the same for Dads too, when it is their turn to look after the baby, they can get on with baby proofing, making dinner or anything else that they may want to do baby-free.
This is the main attraction of the rockaRoo and its relative models, that you can let the vibrations and movement of the rockaRoo lull your baby to sleep, allowing you to get on with other things while you know they are happy and relaxed.
Independent Sleeping
Another key feature that many will overlook is that while the rockaRoo is great for getting the baby to sleep, it is the way your baby is sleeping and what is happening unconsciously that is quite useful.
Not only are they falling asleep, they are falling asleep independently which means that the transition from parent and bassinet to crib and sleeping on their own will be easier when they can unconsciously fall asleep without you around.
So not only is their sleep restful, it is also helping them mature.
Small But Mighty
The main design flaw of the traditional baby swing is that they often either hang on their own frame, or they hang from a door or something similar.
If you don’t have much space, which many first time parents don’t, then you may want to consider the rockaRoo based purely on its size.
The rockaRoo takes up almost no space, it is tiny, stands independently, and can be put basically anywhere. On top of this the thing is pretty mobile when the baby isn’t in it, you can easily take it into your study or into the living room with no pulled back muscles.
Practical And Aesthetic
On the one hand, the rockaRoo will probably do much more for your interior design than a baby swing or bouncer would. The small design makes it unassuming and looks basically like a baby seat, beyond the vibrating movements.
To exasperate this, there are some choices of the fabric cover for the seat you can choose yourself, but more importantly these seat covers are easily machine washable. When you have your first diaper blow out, you will know how important this is – anything else would be a design flaw.
Connectivity
MP3 compatibility is great, this means that you can play any music you want if the sounds provided aren’t to your taste. This means you can play things like white noise and other tracks which help the baby get to sleep. This variability is really valuable.
If we are being picky, we would love some Bluetooth connectivity.
This is where the newer model the mamaRoo trumps this a little, it has the ability to control it with your phone, but you have to pay a little more for these newer models, so it depends what you’re going to use it for.
Electric
One of the great things about the rockaRoo which will certainly save you a little cash, something we always need with newborns. Is that the rockaRoo is actually powered by electric, meaning you have to plug it into a mains plug.
This is great as you don’t have to worry about wasting loads of money on batteries, it is super practical.
What We Don’t Like About the MamaRoo
No Overnight Sleeping
At 4moms they are pretty clear in the relative materials the unit comes with that it is not suitable for overnight sleeping.
While you can use it for napping it shouldn’t be used as a permanent sleeping place.
However, it is important to note that baby swings or bouncers of any kind are not suitable for your baby to sleep in. As neither are a flat surface (there is always a slight recline) or a firm surface.
Short Time Period Of Use
So, the rockaRoo actually can’t be used after the baby has left the bassinet stage.
That is to say that the rockaRoo only supports up to 25 lbs, so when your baby is exceeding this limit, or they have gained the ability to sit up and move around more, you can’t really use it safely anymore.
There’s no particular way to get around this, it just wouldn’t be safe for a baby who meets those criteria. This means that once you buy a crib and move from a bassinet this will have to go to.
So the value of the product goes down considering that it has a limited use.
On the same note, the rocker can’t be used for new born babies, or at least not without buying an extra insert, which again reduces its value. There is a rather short window where the rockaROO can safely be used, but that window can be full of restful sleep.
Final Thoughts on 4moms RockaRoo
We liked the rockaRoo, and found it to be pretty suitable for many parents, particularly those with a small area to deal with.
Considering this has a short time period of use, then it may make sense to go for the cheaper and more value for money option, but this is up to you.
At the end of the day the rockaROO is a cleverly designed product that might just work for you. This could be the key to getting a restful night as a parent. If this works for you, then no amount of money will be too small for a good night’s sleep.
We hope this article has helped you understand what you want from a baby rocker or baby swing, there are many out there and this demonstrates some cool engineering and design on the market of the baby swing – hopefully this can help you and your baby to a restful sleep.
